Sleep is medically necessary. Abraham Maslow, the famous Humanist psychologist listed sleep as one of the basic needs. We know that sleep deprivation causes many things, including a lowered immune system. But what we don't talk about is how it can mimic other issues such as dementia, depression and mood disorders.
TIPS for good sleep
Here are the top 3 tips for a good nights sleep.
Tip 1 Establish a sleep routine.
Tip 2 Determine how much sleep YOU need based on level of stress, activity and physical/emotional health.
Tip 3 Prioritize sleep before other things in your life.
If you are ages 18-65, normal sleep can be as little as 6 hours and as much as 12. Sleep in 90 minute intervals, as that is exactly how the brain goes though all cycles of sleep including REM. Waking up in the middle of a cycle, whether 4 hours or 10 hours, you will not feel rejuvenated, you will feel tired.
